How to train your dog and its importance
Undoubtedly one of the first questions you ask yourself is: How to train a dog?
When we talk about training, we always do it from the vision of affection, love, and patience.
Although you may think the order is simple, it will take time to learn it!
One of the basic things you should consider before starting to train your pet is: Are you emotionally prepared to put up with it?
Keep in mind that the first sessions do not usually achieve great results. However, remember, you can use the services of a professional trainer!
What is dog training ?
Some people think that dog training turns dogs into a robot without feelings, and others think that training is for dogs with specific disciplines, but that it is not recommended for pets… Well, they are wrong.
What is dog training really? It is the process to achieve that a dog has a specific skill, and this is maintained over time.
If you decide to train your pet, remember: it is a long process, and once you have done it, you should practice from time to time. If you do not practice, your pet may forget what has been learned.
How to train a dog ?
If you have a puppy or are thinking of having one at home, I will give you four practical tips on how to educate a puppy, for sure they will all be useful, especially the potty training puppy.
· Leave him home alone
Make many outings from home, gradually increasing the time you are away. In those moments, leave him something to enjoy, such as a new toy, food, interactive toys (toys that you can put food inside, and so while he is entertaining, he is thinking about how to get it out).
Remember that toys should be non-toxic, and preferably they should not be stuffed so that you don’t get into the habit of destroying.
· Potty training puppy
The best-kept secret: promote – avoid – control.
You can provide a temporary place for him to meet his needs while he cannot reach them on the street. This place must be on a different surface than the rest of the house.
Avoid unwanted accidents, frequently take your puppy to the place you have chosen to relieve itself. There are times when our pets are more likely to want to urinate: after sleep, after eating, and after playing.
Control your puppy at all times. You must anticipate all their movements. So you can take him to the right place, and we will avoid accidents.
Remember to congratulate and praise your puppy when he meets his needs.
· Walk with you
Put the collar/harness and leash indoors. Practice walking at home while rewarding the fact that it’s close to your leg.
It is inevitable that your puppy is attracted by the different stimuli that he finds in the street and pull to go towards them, but we will avoid as much as possible that he arrives by pulling.
The world is new to him, and everything will catch his attention: other animals, other dogs, smells, movements, people, children, etc. It must be us who identifies possible distractions along the way, and we will try to keep it focused on us and get used to it.
It is not about giving orders, but about giving you an alternative. This is one of the most difficult parts of our puppy’s education.
Remember, patience and perseverance!
· Sleep in his place
For this training, I invite you to observe your puppy. Identify what kind of places you choose to rest. Then you can put a towel or bed there, and little by little, enter the command “to your place.”
To teach it, we will tell him “to your place,” and we will reward the fact that our dog goes to his place to sleep.
Benefits of training for your dog
Although training a dog requires discipline, it never requires abuse. You just need to make your pet understand that you command, and that if you give him an order, he must obey it.
If your dog is trained, he will know what to do in every situation, and he will not need you to scold him. Also, training your pet has several benefits:
- It will make him happier
- It will lower his stress levels
- He will think that you love him more
- He will be more social with dogs and people
However, training is not mistreatment. Never use physical force, or insult your dog, martyring your pet is never an option!
What factors should you take into account when training your dog?
- The place. Try to find a place where you are both relaxed and where there are hardly any distractions.
- The moment. Remember that it is never advisable to start the training before or after meals.
- Patience and more patience. Your dog will not learn immediately, and once he learns it, repeat it over and over again, so that he does not forget it.
- Don’t start training your dog without knowing what you are doing. If you don’t know how to train your pet, you have many options! YouTube tutorials, vet, dog trainer, etc.
The success of good training is the methods, train your dog with love and affection, and you will have the result you want!
Why is training your dog so important?
The training of a dog is very important for coexistence in daily life. It is not pleasant to try to walk with our pet while continuously pulling on the leash.
And what about the dog that we released and it took forever to get it to go home because it does not answer the call and has run away.
Teaching the dog to carry out a series of desired behaviors also achieves the possibility of establishing a communication code that he can understand.
With four basic orders, we can “explain” to our pet what we want from it: that it comes when we call it, that it sits, that it lies down, that it walks beside us, or that it stops doing something that it is doing because it is not it’s appropriate.
Advantages of dog training
When obedience training is well planned and based on sound and up-to-date scientific and ethological foundations, it will employ protocols that make learning and training enjoyable for both the dog and owner.
